I’m Baaaaaack!

So its been awhile and I apologize, I know you’ve all just been waiting with baited breath for another thrilling installment from yours truly but ya know what, I’ve been a little busy (and, I will admit, lazy).  Lots has happened since my last post so I’m going to give you a quick run-down of the latest goings on in my life.

First things first…Happy Birthday to my not-so-little little brother!  He hit the big 2-4 today, and in doing so made me feel really, really old.  But I still love him anyways!

Now onto my oh-so-interesting life…first off, leaky Layla is no more.  Like an itchy sweater that is super cute but you just can’t bear to wear it for an extended period of time, we took her back to the breeder and exchanged her for a new puppy.  $3000 for a surgery that might not even fix the problem was just a chance we couldn’t take and the breeder was incredibly understanding and just told us to come on back down, he had plenty other puppies that didn’t constantly leak urine that we could choose from.  Since the cat was out of the bag, my mom came with and picked her out and named her.  Meet Ruby Valenta.

Yea…super cute right?  She is, and we love her, but I’m starting to think I may just be a glutton for punishment.  Training 2 puppies within a couple months of each other…in the winter…not so fun.  With this little setback my mom obviously didn’t get Ruby for Christmas, we’ll be keeping her for a couple more months to get her trained, spayed, and all that jazz.  I’m an awesome daughter (and Mike is an awesome son-in-cohabitation), I know, but with the gift my mom got us for Christmas, I think buying and training a puppy for her is the least I can do.  Which leads me to the next big to-do in my life as of late….
We’re going to Greece in August!  My mom is taking me, Mike, and my brother on a 10-day Mediterranean cruise!  So…what better time to finally learn Greek to understand what my family is saying that they don’t want me to know (and I suppose to communicate in Greece).  Enter Rosetta Stone!  I feel like a huge loser but I’m so freaking excited to learn something new…its like school, but without the shitty instructors, pointless homework, and stressful exams!  So far its been pretty awesome and I’ve already learned a ton…I’ve got 8 months to get it down, I’ll keep you all posted :)
Oh so yea I also got a NEW JOB!  Just a tiny little HUGE change in my life that I couldn’t be happier about!  I started this past week and while all the new stuff I have to learn is pretty daunting and getting to know all new people makes me feel like I’m entering junior high again, I’m really happy.  There’s no real formal training, kind of just learn as you go, but my co-workers have been super nice, toting me along with them throughout the week, so that definitely made the transition a lot easier.  One of the reasons I already love the job (and another example of my nerdery) is that I actually get to use my brain!  In other ways than trying to remember what aisle the bug spray is in or discern what type of nasty rash you have on your foot that you should see a doctor about!  A new year, a new challenge, I couldn’t be more excited.
So other than those few things not much else is new…new dog, new job, big trip, no biggie!  I kid.  Anyways…I’m still working on whittling the waist down, something that my new cookbook probably won’t help with.
While these recipes are vegan, and definitely more healthy than most cupcakes, they still pack in a few calories.  Luckily I’m not going crazy with my new hobby of cupcake creating and will only use this cookbook every now and then….like tonight when I tried my first batch-Cookies ‘n Cream…didn’t even miss the dairy, they turned out pretty good if I do say so myself!
Don’t worry, I’m not doing anything crazy like cutting meat out of my diet.  I’m a midwestern girl that likes herself some cow and pig so that will never happen, but I am trying to eat less dairy and gluten, without depriving myself of some of my favorite things, so this cookbook works perfectly (for the less dairy part at least).  Along with this cookbook, I also got a couple other healthier ones that I’m pretty excited to try out.  Once I try some recipes, you’ll be the first to hear about the good, the bad, and the ugly.
So I feel like I’ve hit you with a whole lotta info tonight, so I’ll stop while I’m somewhat ahead.  I promise I won’t leave you for so long again!  It feels good to be back :)
